Biography

Claire Selin is a 2021 graduate of the Child Language Doctoral Program and is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Child Maltreatment Solutions Network at Pennsylvania State University. Claire's overall goal is to identify deep root-cause risk factors of language disorders and to improve the validity of diagnostic practices in speech-language pathology. Her primary research is focused on how adversity exposure (e.g., maltreatment, trauma) and stress influence language acquisition. Claire is a practicing speech-language pathologist and values research that is ecologically valid, relevant, and translatable for non-scientific audiences. She has contributed to multiple policy briefs disseminated to state and federal legislators on topics such as disentangling neglect and poverty, access to speech therapy and teletherapy, and improving literacy instruction in public education. She has recent publications in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association journals as well as Child Abuse & Neglect.
